I bought this for dog nail trimming. The AA battery power source is a plus for me as I already have AA rechargeables.Well, I was disappointed. The switch was very "confused" and didn't work properly because of messed up battery contacts. I fiddled with the contacts and got the Off and Low to work properly but the High doesn't turn on at all.I'm returning it for a refund. Maybe I got a rare lemon but the overall cheap construction leads me to believe otherwise. I'll stick with my high-quality corded Dremel and live with the inconvenience of the power cord.
This Dremel is a great item for people who don't want yet another charger and proprietary battery to babysit. The two main downsides are the two speed settings and a somewhat clunky speed control switch.Ideally, it would be able to charge NiMH AA batteries *inside* the Dremel with a simple cable charger. When those batteries get tired from repeated use and charging, you can simply replace them with off-the-shelf items. I wish more manufacturers would adopt this for rechargeable items like this Dremel, screwdrivers, drills, toothbrushes, razors, etc. That being said, it's great to see this a tool that runs on easily charged and replaced AA batteries. Stick some Eneloop batteries in there and it will be ready to go when you need it, even a year or two from now.
Would have returned it if the company didn't have such a crappy return policy! Blows through batteries in 5-10 mins
