Porter-Cable PCL120MTC-2 12V Max Oscillating Tool Kit with 32 Accessories Reviews

    1. I was recently introduced to this style of tool on the job site with a lower quality version of this tool. After coming here for reviews, of which this is the first, I decided to dig a little further. The information that I found compared similar offerings from Dremel and Rockwell, which basically ended with me getting that the Dremel is not job site tough, and the Rockwell model may have variable speed switch issues and questionable product support. I found a small video demonstration of the Porter Cable and read a little blurb that said the blade changes on this model are actually quicker than the Fein original! So I picked up this version at a local box store as I'm currently working on a large remodel. A couple thousand feet of laminate hardwood, roof, basement sealing, etc. So far I've been able to quickly and effortlessly more door jambs that I care to remember as well as cutting out electrical boxes in sheet rock, cutting nice tight openings in the laminate flooring around register openings, even cut pressure treated 2 x 10 in a pinch. I don't recommend this type of tool for that type of lumber, but it got the job done. The blade changes are superb. Just apply a good amount of pressure to the button and kinda wiggle the blade loose if necessary. Slide the new attachment in place and release. The blades are clamped with a good amount of spring force and I'm not the least bit concerned they would ever loosen up. All in all this is a solid tool that I paid $25 more for locally and would gladly do so again. Read THIS TOOL IS NOT CRAP!

    2. I too have long been a fan of Porter-Cable and trusted that they could not possibly allow an issue as described by Ray below to go uncorrected. So I ordered the PCL120MTC-2. I charged both batteries and went to work; cut PVC pipe in a place too small for a pipe cutter (plunge cutter), trimmed a ? inch 4'x8' lattice panel (round saw blade), and sanded each segment of the same lattice panel (sander @ 80 grit) before the battery died. Blade changes are incredibly fast and easy. Adjustable speed allows sanding without clogging or burning.I popped in the second battery and went to work - for about 2 seconds. The unit slowed, and then cut off. The battery had come out. When I tried again the battery first slid back about 1/8 inch and the tool slowed down. Within a second or two the battery slid back another ? inch cutting the tool off completely. It was very repeatable. When I replaced the battery with the "dead" first battery, I found it still had some charge left. It stays in better, but it eventually pops out too.Rather than send it back, I decided to contact Porter-Cable on their WEB site. Good luck with that! The "contact us" link doesn't recognize you are logged in and informs you that there is another user registered with that e-mail address. I did find a phone number and called. The `customer service representative' seemed totally uninterested in my problem and knew even less about the tool. After being put on hold a reasonable time, he came back and told me that they would send me another battery. When I asked if anything had been done to fix the problem, he didn't know about any fixes. When I pointed out that the first battery eventually popped out too, he said he was only authorized to replace one battery. I completed the satisfaction survey at the end of the call and received a call the next day, leaving a message that they would replace the other battery. I haven't had a chance to return that call.My initial experience is very disappointing. Other features and advantages are useless if the batteries will not stay in. I'll see what happens with the replacements.

    3. I'm a huge fan of Porter Cable Power tools, so I didn't hesitate when purchasing the new cordless multi-tool. I'm a home-remodel DIY'er, on my 3rd remodel. I'm an Engineer for a living. remodeling is something I do for myself for fun, and sometimes profit.I'd love to be able to give an in depth review, but I can't. My review stops where the Start button turns the tool on. As soon as you turn the trimmer on, the battery pops out in just a few seconds.I'm an engineer, so naturally I tried to figure out why this was happening. The battery latch is more of a slide, in that there is nothing that really latches. The catch on the trimmer itself is cut such that it would allow latch to "hook" onto it, but the battery latch is not designed that way.I'm taking mine back and I'll try another one at the store, but I can't see how it's possible to just have a bad unit. To me, it appears that it's a design flaw.I lost a weekend of work, at least on what I had planned to do with this tool, and am very disappointed with this product. If the replacement proves better, I'll be sure to give another review. For now, buyer beware. You can try it at the store before you buy it. The batteries are charged enough to give you the ability to test it for this issue before you leave the store. Pop in the battery, turn the speed sdjustment to "6", hit the switch, and wait a few seconds. If it's defective it won't take more than 5 seconds. Mine didn't.

    4. In the middle of what I would call a mid-sized home project. Taking down a portion of a wall and installing a bar. Fair amount of drywall and framing work. I did not purchase this product from Amazon...but having used it...felt it was fair to give it a review. I reefed on this little sucker for about 3 hours straight. Swapping the battery about every 20-30 minutes. It did an outstanding job of chewing through drywall very cleanly. I found the straight cutting bits to cut far better than the rounded cutter. Takes a little practice...but you can really fly through drywall...many linear feet of it at a time...with the regular straight bits. Vibration is very low...for an oscillating tool. Very comfortable to use. Noise is a little high. If you're going to use it for more than 15-30 minutes at a time, you might consider ear protection. DIY...this is easily overkill and more than you'll ever need. Pro....probably OK. Maybe go with the corded version. Cordless is fantastic though. The quick tool change is GREAT. Genius move and design by PC. Works perfectly. Blows Fein away....and I love Fein. It was great to make many adjustments to the angle of the cutter I was using as often as I wanted, without having to mess with a hex wrench or something similar. In the end...great great tool. Beat it up pretty good and it's fine. Highly recommended.

    5. I bought this for my husband for Christmas (he specificly requested it.) He is a contractor who owns his own business. Since receiving it, he's used it once and loved it. Continues to talk about how this tool will make many small jobs a lot easier to complete. He was also excited to learn the tool's battery fits and works with charger for his Makita cordless drills.

    6. I am very happy with the performance of this tool Works great and a valuable tool for my line of work. Thank you
