Gunvault GV1000C-STD Mini Vault Standard Gun Safe Reviews
This is a stout little safe with a spring loaded door. The tactile combo lock is intuitive and works easily and in the dark.UNFORTUNATELYThe batteries are VERY difficult to change and they drain every three months. My communications with Gun Vault assured me that they would last a full year if the battery code date was 8 years out. This has repeatedly proven not to be the case with my two units.
This product works well. The "hand print" code entry pad is a little large for normal sized hands, but overall works well by feel. Size is ample for a mid-sized hand gun.The foam interior of the box is a bit of a let down (cheap), but works.
This gun safe is easy to operate and open. It appears to be secure and will serve its purpose in our household for keeping our small children away from the pistols we have. We are pleased with it so far and have recommended it to friends who are in the same situation. We were also pleased with the price.
I've had my Gun Vault for several years and didn't change the batteries until just recently. When I did, I found a little problem. The batteries must be in the carrier just so and the carrier needs to be snugged up with the thumb screws quite well. If the circuit looses the electrical connection for even a second, the code will dump and you'll have to reprogram it. This means you gotta find the key to open it first. Don't loose those keys!I put a little piece of cardboard along the length of the of the carrier to press the batteries firm in the carrier. This seems to solve the problem. As far as being hard to change, flip the whole unit upside down, it makes it a whole lot easier.
the last 'safe' i owned was a smith and wesson electronic handgun safe made by American Securities. It was terrible. the button's were finicky, after a month it only opened after the second attempt , and finally it wouldn't open all together, even though it had full battery power. It was unsafe for home defense. This gunvault is it's opposite in every way. it opens fast and easy with the correct code. pops open for you so you can access contents with one hand. i purchased this smaller cheaper version to test the company out, i'll be purchasing the larger version soon, i recommend that, if your intentions are to keep more than just the handgun in there. overall, i highly recommend the product.
