Very pleased with product. This unit makes a nice additon to the Rubbermaid FastTrack shelving system. I use it for my hand garden tools, gloves, string and plant tags.
I was a bit weary about purchasing this shelf after reading the reviews on it; however, in the end I am glad that I did. My FastTrack rails are on the wall next to the door that leads from the garage into the hallway; I wanted a shelf next to the door for things like mail and a place to put my morning tea when I am locking the door before I go to work. I looked at this shelf and decided to give it a chance. My reasoning was that it is as expensive as any other self I'd put up and, as an added plus, it has hooks on it.Assembly of the shelf was a real pain. It involves holding it together, holding it down to a table, and hammering in two wedges. This sounds simple, but it takes forever. Follow the directions to the letter (look at picture that describes the way they hold the shelf on the table top when hammering, that's the way to do it even though the directions don't make reference to how to hold the written directions) and you'll be fine. With all that being said, I didn't mind the assembly so much... I kept thinking to myself "this is way less work than mounting the rails to the wall."Once assembled, the shelf snapped onto the rails. Since the shelf is lower than the rail, I was able to put the shelf underneath my bike (being held on the FastTrack via the horizontal bike holder) with no obstructions to the shelf. I used the hooks beneath the shelf for my helmet and other bike stuff. The shelf portion works great for what I intended it for, but I do wish that it had more depth to it.To wrap it up, the shelf serves its purpose and doesn't break the bank. The shelf portion is kinda small but okay, and (IMHO) the hooks are the most useful feature. I recommend this to all who are looking for a small shelf and hooks for some commonly used items.
I really like the FastTrack system, and have used it throughout my garage, but I must say that this shelf and hook assembly is not up to the standards of the other items in the product line. This is the only attachment that required assembly, which isn't a bad thing in and of itself, but once it was assembled it had a decidedly flimsy nature about it. I had to basically 'hold it together' while attaching it to the track. Once installed, it held fine and felt sturdy, but repositioning it on the track is a pain. All in all, it does it's job satisfactorily.
Small and not a good use of FastTrack space. Pricy also.
This Fast Track hardware is very useful but it was so difficult to put together. The attachment to the rail comes in two loose pieces and it has to be attached to the shelf unit which of course cannot lay flat because of the shape. The metal posts have to go into the attaching bracket and a little square metal piece has to be pushed into the slot. You need pliers and a death-grip or one of those pliers that can be tightened little by little until that metal piece is forced in far enough.I will stick to the hooks which come assembled in one piece. If I knew how hard it was, I would have looked for a store that had it already assembled.
I accidently assembled this product wrong and could not undo it. I was bummed that that instructions did not warn about this. As it stood,this product was useless and I had to return it for a replacement because I was locked into the whole Rubbermaid system with rail and hooks. I would be extra careful about assembly if you need this product. Unfortunately, there are no other substitute products that one can but for the Rubbermaid system that have the same purpose as this item else I would've gladly substituted
This is one of the better fasttrack gadgets, as it provides a little shelf space and three good hooks.
