Intex 15-Foot-by-42-Inch Family Size Round Metal Frame Pool Set Reviews
We have the 12'X 36", which is almost the same size, and are extremely pleased with it. It is a lot of pool for the money! The exterior white pipes are a sturdy metal that interlock with each other and slip through a very strong vinyl casing around the top of the heavy vinyl blue pool itself. Since we already had a level spot from previous pools, it took only an hour or so, for my children to assemble it themselves, with their 14 yr. old brother. As many people have stressed on other pool reviews, YOU MUST MUST have a level site and this can take lots of work, so don't expect to just open it and start assembling. Once the pool was filled with water, I was surprised by how much more solid it seemed than our previous Easy set and simple set pools had been. It's like there's some kind of dynamic balance between the metal frame and the heavy vinyl pool wall and all the water. My son insists it is superior to our old pools. An important note is that this pool is truly 12 feet across the top, unlike the easy and simple set ones that measure 12 feet on the bottom diameter but far less, closer to 9+ feet across the top, and this pool can be filled up to 90% of its sidewall height. Our old easy set pool was supposed to be filled only to 80%, so when you compare this pool with those kind, remember that this one has more usable swimming area and depth. This kind of pool can not be winterized and left up in climates where the winter temperatures drop below freezing, so keep that in mind. We live in the northeast of the US, so pools are useful at most from approximately Memorial Day to shortly after Labor Day, and we think that inexpensive above ground pools are economical. Also, we have found that the more expensive chemical testing kits, like the ones at Walmart for $12.97, that test for for at least five things, are a good investment, even for small pools. If you don't add stabilizer (cyanuric acid) and keep your ph steady, you will spend too much on chemicals overall. I wasted lots of chlorine over the years before I realized that. Small pools are economical but the chemical maintenance is more challenging than it might seem. I looked into Bacquacil (a non-chlorine sanitizing system, that is not as tricky to test and manage as a chlorine system) and was told by one pool dealer that it might clog up cartridge filters in small pools, but the website for Bacquacil says you can use it with this kind. We are going to try that. Also, our pool came with a well made ladder, noticeably better quality than our previous pool sets, and had a lightweight pool cover and a small pool skimmer and vacuum. These small vacuums work on whats called a "venturi" effect. Not as efficient as the kind in big pools. Just make sure that you put a big fresh container of water in front of the ladder and make the kids rinse off their feet before going in.
The size is a bit deceiving. The pool measures just over 14.5 feet, not 15 as advertised. Somewhere it's mentioned that water level is 42" so don't think that your getting 48". I knew about the water level but the diameter was a surprise. I ordered a 15' solar cover and wondered why it was too big. I got took the tape measure to the pool and found out why. These size issues don't really bother my but it should be noted more clearly on box.Yes the ladder is flimsy but usable. I cut a couple of boards and put them at the top for a platform, it's a good place for the kids to sit and ladder is sturdier. I'm 280 lbs. and have not problem as long as I'm careful. One thing that did make me frown a bit was the pinhole leak that I discovered after filling the pool. Brand new and a leak? Ohhh well that's Chinese quality I guess. They include a repair kit that has some vinyl but NO Glue! I fixed it by taking a small amount of bathroom caulk and putting on the inside of the pool, this stopped the leak so I could work on the outside. I used JB Weld..lol to attach piece of the supplied vinyl to the outside. It's held up fine. Not the recommended fix, but it's what I had laying around and didn't have to run to the store to purchase glue. The pump is working fine, where I see others have had problems with the pumps wearing out. I actually put a valve in and run a separate hose off it for solar heating. I run the pump 6-10 hours a day. I purchased two additional filters but have yet to use them. I have been reusing the same filter that came with pool by spraying it off with the hose. It comes out nice and clean for me.As far as chemicals, I have spent $9 on bleach and $6 on borax in 2.5 months. I found out how to take care of the water here [...]. I then use this calculator to add bleach and raise my PH [...] It's worked like a charm, I actually keep the chlorine pretty low and the water is crystal clear with no algae. My well water is acidic so borax helps raise PH on that. The rain has lowered the PH too, so more borax helped there as well.As far as setup, it was pretty easy. I'm satisfied with pool. I paid $249 for the pool at Walmart so the price here is a bit high, I can see where free delivery and the lack of a Walmart could justify the additional price.
This pool is fantastic. I had two other wet set models but had problems with leveling and the sides crashing in when a few kids get rowdy. The metal frame is very strong and holds up well even if your ground has a slight slant. I found it very easy to put up (about an hour). The filter could be better but it does the trick. My son and I are in the pool daily and love it!
I got this pool last summer. Set up was fast and easy with several people. It did take a few hours to level the ground a bit before set up. The pump works great with the skimmer to keep the pool clean. The only maintenance is keeping the chemicals up and changing the filter on a regular basis. My kids (7, 10, 14) have a blast in this pool. Just remember to run the pump about 8 hours a day or the electric bill may be a shock.
We have had this pool for two summers. We have had the blow up ring type pool in the past (took it down in the winter and put it back up in the spring; pump died the end of the second summer). I like this pool better. We purchased the pool in the late fall of 2007 and put the pool up the spring of 2008 on level ground. We do minor cleaning almost every day before the kids go for a swim - we have a lot of trees near the pool. We run the pump and filter almost 24/7. We live near Atlanta and left the pool up through the winter. The pool was covered and maintained through the winter. We drained, cleaned and refilled it this spring. Pool chemicals are a little expensive, but you'll need them for any pool. We have the water tested at a pool supply store in early spring and add the needed chemicals. The rest of the year is just the shocks and tablets. We have two boys and a girl; their friends come over and swim often. The pool is used four or five days a week (or more). We have had no problems with the pool itself. The hoses to the filter pump started leaking where they bend to be attached to the pool mid summer this year. I was able to fix them with some water proof tape. The pump died a couple of days ago - that's why I'm on amazon looking for a new pump. Remember the pump was on almost 24/7 for 17 months. For the price we paid for the pool, I feel it held up well (you get what you pay for). I'm going to replace the pump and hope the pool will last at least one more year, maybe two. All the minor maintenance and cleaning is done by the wife and kids (I made that clear before we bought it). 7/30/09
I meant to order another model because we have a limited space for where to put the pool and because I didn't want the metal poles. All that went out the window once it came. The instructions sounded tough to follow, but once we started it was a no brainer! From the time we opened the box to completing the filter connections adding water, it was under 45 minutes. I was concerned it was not going to be sturdy, but after it was together it was solid. It only got better once it was filled with water. We did find that the 12' measurement was not really quite 12'. As I said, since we were limited on space, this was a great thing for us, but for others counting on that 12', maybe not so much. One thing we are finding out though, is that you can't really fill the pool to the level they suggest. We did and after a few antics by our kids, water was coming over the sides. There isn't any "lip" like a regular above ground pool to keep that water in the pool, but really it isn't a huge deal. Overall, a good investment that looks like it will last for quite a while.
This pool I bought 2 years ago after our first pool fell apart. We put it up last year and filled it up. It worked great all summer. I have two kids, last year they were 7 & 8. Them and all their friends played in it last year about 10 kids a day. The pool held up nicely. We live in Montana so we drained the pool in the fall and left it up but empty all winter. When it got hot out again my son who is 8 and his friend got in the pool and cleaned it out. It was pretty easy with our shop vac and the mop. We filled it with water and again this year it as been used almost every day with around 10 kids. This pool is great. The pump also has been working wonderfully. The metal pipes are holding up really well and there is little show of fading on the inside or outside and our pool has been up for almost two years. I have no complaints
This is our third summer with this pool. It has been well worth the money. It is used by our family of 6, mostly adults, (4 "kids" now 15,18,22,24)plus friends. It takes 2 people about an hour (if that) to set up which I don't mind. An hour of work for a summer of fun is not bad at all. It has been a great pool, no leaks or any other defects. I have been in it with 6 people at a time, some standing and some on floaties, and did not feel too crowded. It has held up to plenty of splashing, horseplay and even held up to a drunk neighbor deciding to do a cannonball at 3 in the morning! Just yesterday an 18,19,22 & 27 year old were playing volleyball in it for hours and had a blast. The ladder has been very sturdy. People weighing between 120 - 250+ have used it for going on 3 years now with no problems, cracks, breaks or bends. This ladder has also sat outside every winter since we've had it.To me this pool is much better than the blow up ring type pools, which in my opinion the blow up kind have wasted space. Plus it's easier to clean when you take it down for the winter. Once the water is out it is still standing upright unlike the blow up kind. It's also been fine on slightly unlevel ground, a difference of about 4 inches from one side to the other. The cover is a little difficult for me to put on by myself, but I rarely use it anyway. The only other thing I could say I would like better is maybe a little bigger pool filter, but that's also not a huge issue for me. Overall I still give this pool 5 stars.
We had purchased the Intex easy set pool, which has an inflatable ring around the top and we took it back within 2 weeks because a palm tree branch fell on it and popped the ring. We also didn't get the bottom of the pool smoothed out very well so instead of the pool being round it was oval. We decided to take a chance on this pool ans we have had it for about a month now and so far so good. We purchased the Krystal Clear Salt Water pump system, which has a higher capacity pump than what comes with the pool and we really like the combination of this pool with the salt water system. There are two things that I am not totally happy with. One is that the ladder is a bit flimsy, but, I knew it was going to be when I bought it because I read other reviews. The other thing is the pool cover is not very easy to work with. After getting the cover on the pool, which takes at least three people to get it on and evened out to the point where it can be secured, it typically winds up going into the pool within 24 hours. The size of the pool is fine for us to get in and cool off and play. I would rather pay about $350 for this pool than pay $3000 for a Tuff pool. Even if it doesn't last as long as a Tuff pool, I am fine with that. I was able to get the pool set up in about an hour and filling the pool up plus getting the salt water system started took a couple of days.
We bought this pool for our family of 5 (including 3 boys 10, 6 and 2). We absolutely love this pool. There is plenty of room for several people to swim and cool off in the hot sun.I strongly recommend that you make sure that the ground is level. If it is not level, pay the money to have a professional do it. We put this pool up on what we thought was fairly level ground only to find that there was a 9 inch difference in elevation. We had to drain the pool and start over to avoid major colapse. We hired a guy with a bobcat to come in and level the pool area and now it is great. However, we wasted a lot of time and money. Prepare the ground before even thinking about assembling the pool.We also recommend using more than the drop cloth if you have very rocky soil. Without extra cushion our pool bottom would be unbearable to walk on and probably would damage the liner.
