I bought this gun safe for my husband for Christmas. He wanted to keep his handgun and clip in his nightstand for easy access, but out of the hands of our two little boys. This Biometric safe works like a charm...very easy to program with our index fingerprints (took just minutes to do for both of us) and has opened instantaneously every time. I test it out every now and again, just because it works so well. You press an activating button that lights up the fingerprint scanner and then swipe your finger. It's a very sturdy, hefty metal box with a nice thick foam pad and plenty of room for a gun (or two) and several clips. It also comes with keys to open the safe. We are both very happy with this product.
I bought this because i wanted a biometric safe that had a key backupIf you've looked, there are only a few that fit this bill.I've had it for about 3months.I chose this model b/c there are no reports of the locking mechanism failing, unlikea main competitor.The safe was sold out on the manufacturer's website, at retail price. Delivery off Amazon wasno problem.Registration of two fingerprints was simple, and the device is pretty reliable.It is not 100% reliable on the first read, probably more like 75%, a second attempt willalways get it open. It's fast, but not instantaneous. Also, it makes a click as it opens.If you think you need to be able to open a safe silently, with 100% accuracy (one read), and instantaneously, you will be disappointed.On the other hand, if you need a reliable biometric safe that works well, and has a back up in case of failure, you'll find this perfect.
This is a total redo of my initial review which gave the Locksaf 1 star because it had what I assume a bad scanner-reader. I could not get the safe to open with any consistency. I am amending my rating to 5 stars because of 2 things. One, is for the way the Blade Shop handled my issues by shipping me a new unit with a shipping label to send the old one back, no questions asked. Secondly, the new unit works flawlessly and deserves 5 stars, IMO.As to the customer service, here's more. The new unit had a nice handwritten note from Keysha, an employee of Blade Shop apologizing for my trouble and giving me the name and number of Keith, the owner of the Blade Shop to call if I had further problems. I did call to ask a question about which box I should ship back to him and we ended up chatting for about 20 minutes. Nice guy. He was aware of my review and said that Rick, the owner of Locksaf had seen it too and had called him to make sure he did everything possible to make me happy because he knows his product is the best on the market now and the problems with my unit were an anomaly. It appears that that is the case as my new Locksaf works just as advertised and I am completely satisfied that I bought the right biometric safe.If you are in the market for a biometric safe you should pull the trigger on this one. You will more than likely get a perfect unit, but if there's a problem you're in good hands with either the Blade Shop or Locksafe because they will make it right for you. Thanks for reading.Gavin S.
Although this safe seems relatively high quality compared to all the other safes I have seen in the same price range (and lower).There are a few features I didn't like, and some functions which I didn't find acceptable. I have returned mine to the seller because it didn't fit my needs.Please note that I didn't go out and buy a cheap safe. I looked around and read reviews and spent $299 because I wanted something that met my admittedly high standards.GOOD STUFF FIRST:The key is amazing, I can't imagine ANYONE being able to pick this thing in less than a few hours with an extensive tool set. Would be easier to just go at it with a sawsall or a crow bar! It would probably stop someone with a big screw driver, or a hammer, but wouldn't stop anyone with power tools and metal bits/blades, or a crow bar longer than 2 feet long. I think it would definitely stop kids or teenagers who don't want to leave a mark on it though.Seems well made, and sturdy. Easy to use and program.MY DIS-SATISFACTIONS: (others may disagree with my findings, but this is what *I* experienced.)The fingerprint scanner has a loud beep every time you use it. No way to turn it down or OFF. The Fingerprint scanner is good, but not as fast as I thought it would be. Even if you carefully hold your finger in a similar position and pressure every time, it sometimes takes more than 2 seconds to recognize your finger. And maybe one out of every 5 times or so it fails to recognize your finger and you have to try again. This means every 20-40 times you open with a finger you might have to try three times to get it to open, and it could take up to 6-7 seconds total for that time. To me that is not good enough. I can understand a requirement to carefully and consistently place and pressure your finger pad. (which actually isn't that important on this scanner!) But I want something that is 95% effective or better and would expect that at least 50% of the time it should open in less than 1 second and never longer than 2.
This is my first biometric safe. With that said, I have no reason to try another. This safe works great! It reads my fingerprint correctly 100% of the time, although it has a little harder time with my wife's for some reason. My daughter has put much time into trying to break into it with absolutely no success. It is constructed of very heavy steel and opens quickly.Before purchasing this safe I did much reasearch, read many forums and read alot about safes that didn't work very well. It looks as if I have made the right choice with this one - I would recommend this safe to anyone.
This is my first experience with a fingerprint safe and after reading a lot of reviews I decided on this one. So far I am happy with it, but just hope it works the one time I really need it. I got it to keep the kids away and don't much like the idea of not being able to get right at my handgun, but the safety aspect is more important. Funny though...as I'm writing this I'm thinking..."yea I got this to keep the kids safe...but if it doesn't work when I need it, then it kinda defeats the purpose". Anyway...back to the product review.For starters, it's built like a tank. My wife can barely pick it up.Would be nice to have foam on the inside sides of the box also, and not the egg style foam, I don't like that much. Stuff just doesn't sit right on that kind of foam.It works for me 98% of the time, but my wife can barely get it to work. I'm thinking it's her little fingers maybe (size 3.5 ring).It's very easy to use, and not to noisy as I have heard other safes can be.Takes about 2 seconds to open from when you press the button, then place your finger on the reader.I would recommend this product.
Springs open 1st shot 99 out of 100 times. Very sturdy and well built. Would open quicker if you didn't have to push the button and wait a second to activate the reader before entering your finger for verification. Whole process takes about 3 seconds under normal conditions. Probably another second or two waking up at night in a stressful situation. This is my second unit so I am familiar. Delivery was a bit late. Ordered on 11/27 and received a delivery window of 12/02-12/07. Didn't arrive till 12/09. Still probably the best compact, portable safe out there. Keeps honest people honest and the kids out.
