Ultra Thin Micathermic Heater uses 500W/1000W, and High, Low and ECO Mode heat settings. ECO Mode = energy saving function that cuts power by 1/3 when room temp reaches set point to save energy. Micathermic heat utilizes technology from both convection and radiant heat, that use 80% convection and 20% reflective heat, distributing heat consistently and more evenly throughout the room, along with overheat and tip-over safety protection features. benches with backs : Soleus Air HM1-10-32 Ultra Thin Micathermic Heater, Black>Compare Prices<
Soleus Air HM1-10-32 Ultra Thin Micathermic Heater, Black Reviews
My Soleus HM1-10-32 is used to supplement my oil heat since prices have gone up. I have no problem heating a 18' x 12' living room. I wanted the non-remote version because I've got too many remotes and dont need another one. To my surprise this regular model is now coming with ECO (economy mode). The heating element consists of two 500W vertical heat panels:1) LOW: In this mode only one heat panel turns on (the right panel).2) High: In this mode both (right and left) heat panels turn on.3)ECO: In this mode both 500W heat panels turn on until the room reaches a certain temp then the right heat panel turns off and the left one remains on until the thermostat takes over and cycles one 500W panel. Noise: The 500W heat panels will warp at little as they warm-up. This warping makes a low clunk sound. Not loud enough to disturb you but noticable. Also the thermostat makes a click as it cycles.Power: 1000W seems to be enough for me and doesnt cause heating of the line cord. At this power level the unit can share another device on the same line if need be. The 500W setting works well for most of my conditions. For instance I get home from work and the burner has kept the house at 63 degrees F. I turn-on the heater at 1000W until the living room wall thermostat reads 69 F then I turn the heater to low and let it cycle.Heat: Since it has a back or rear to the element I tried it up against a wall. This heated the wall up real well. After moving it out in the open it seemed much more effective. The heater emits a LOT of heat out of the top and heats only about out to three feet from the front. I also heats out to 1.5 feet to the rear. Other than that its mostly Infra-red waves to the front and rear and ambient heat to the top. Very handy carry handle on one side and attractive thin profile make this a real versatile low profile heater. With the Micathermic elements the heating elements are not exposed to the air so it is safe. I really think this is the future in portable heating because it is the quietest heater I have used. Also with heat out of the top, infra red to the front and heat to the rear its very effective.Edit: 2/6/07 Well we had our first single digit night here in NY and it kept the bedroom at 68F by using 1000W and letting it cycle all night. Thats 68F with my door open and attic air leaking thru the attic stairs (in otherwords worst case) at 8 deg outside temp. Normally on an 8 deg night my bedroom is 59F. I also knocked it completely over while walking around in the dark. The Power was off and it lived no problem. No damage works fine. Another point is that no matter how close it is to objects in the bedroom they do not heat to a dangerous temp. They will get warm but not hot. When sitting on the coach with it 3 feet away and facing you (maximum comfy) you only feel a mild radiant heat not a blast in the face. Try that with most radiant heaters and you'll get a tan. Lovin' it.
Does a good job heating a 10" x 12' bedroom. It's totally silent, so it's perfect for the bedroom. It does heat up almost instantly, but at only 1000 watts, does not heat up the room very quickly. Best to turn it on an hour before you turn in, to give it time to heat up the room. I'm using it in a house that I set to 58 degrees overnight, with single digit temperatures outside. The bedroom stays in the upper 60's for the night while this is on. Update: It stopped working after a couple of months. Got a new one that's been working fine all winter. The one year warranty was good, but the return experience was poor. Had to call many times over many days to get an actual person. The return involved cutting the end of the power cord and mailing at my expense back to them (good to not have to pay to send the entire unit back). Plus, had to send them money to cover shipment of the replacement unit (I think it was $16). All in all, it cost me over 40% of the original cost to get warranty replacement. It seems that this is becoming a common practice these days, but not easy to find out until you call for repair. So consider this a heads up so you can factor this in to your purchasing decision.
This item does NOT promote enough heat even at a high setting. I recommend the DeLongi flat panel heater, as you can actually mount the heater, and it puts off a great deal to heat at a much lower setting, for about the same price of this unit...
We have had this heater for a year and a half and primarily use it to heat the bedroom when the main furnace goes to a low setting for the night. However, because it is so light, we can use it where needed. This heater is very effective and in the ECO setting at 500 watts it doesn't increase the electric bill so you can notice it. It's quiet, and the radiant head feels great. Good heating from both sides except when the room gets near the temperature setting as the ECO setting turns one side off. Nice heat also comes from the top of the unit. The new smell when it was new disappeared after a number of uses so there was no problem there either. Rate it a 5.
This is a good heater, but it is poorly manufactured. The screws for the feet are not made properly. Each of the two heaters that I have purchased has one foot that keeps falling off.
I bought this item online for $58 and it broke after a few days of very light use. The thermostat failed and the plastic knob broke. I don't recommend Soleus products. Their quality is very bad.
I purchased this heater thinking that it was cute. It was cute but two problems besides the big stink that it creates when new: 1) The dials were broken when I got it. NOTE: The manufacturer was good for them and sent me two replacements. 2) After about 2 months of light use it DIED!So much for cute. I'm so ticked off that I don't even want to bother attempting to send it back because of the hassle. The two star rating was a mistake. I'd give it half of one.
Really liked the -10R-32 in the bathroom on cold mornings when we didn't want to turn up the heat just before heading for work. With no warning, it just quit working and the power button started blinking instead of being on continuously. I called customer service and was told that the warranty had just run out and the best thing to do was BUY ANOTHER ONE! Did I sound like I just fell off the turnip truck? I went right out and bought a vertical ocillating unit with variable temperture selections. It work just fine.
I just got the HM1 10R 32.It's a good heater. The 1000W range is best for good heat quality throughout the room. I put up full length curtains to separate the rooms and it brings the temp right up to 70 degrees fast. However, on a negative side, the 500W mode doesn't seem to put out all that much heat. Also, I can't figure out why it won't shut off when the room reaches the temp setting on the heater. I even set it to 59* at its lowest setting and the heater does not seem to cycle off even though the thermostat reads 70*+ in that room. It has a "HEAT" light that just stays lit. I can't find any documentation that even discusses what this HEAT mode is supposed to do. The HEAT mode seems to be replaced with an "ECO" setting on the upgrade. Is there something wrong with this heater that I should be knocking on Soleus' door on?
Love this heater, but would rather the wheels had been sturdier -- I've "run it off the rails" a few times. Obviously not really meant to go from room-to-room, but terrifically economical. A clean, warm heat source.
