I hooked the button up and it did not work with my older Blue Max opener. So I dug into the instructions and learned that this unit needs power from the opener that mine did not provide - so I researched and bought an external power supply for it.That worked, and I thought I was all set until one day later I accidentally discovered that if the external power supply stops working, is unplugged, cord yanked etc, the garage door immediately opens on its own!!Since most people have their button installed near the garage inside door, if you have kids, dogs or the circuit breaker blows, your garage door will open while you are away.I called the Skylink company and they insisted that this was all the fault of the Blue Max not providing power and requiring an external power supply. They were not interested in hearing that this was basically a design flaw and that their unit could have been designed so that if external power was lost the unit did not open the door...On top of this, remote is not compatible with my new Lexus - by the companies own admission.I just ordered a new Lift master receiver and 2 remotes - to fix all the above.
Serves me right for being stupid enough to buy this without assurance that it works on my system. You aren't about to take the risk yourself.....right?
Product worked for 2+ months, then the wall unit LED stopped lighting up, and garage door did not open. Called Skylink customer service for troubleshooting, and was told my garage door opener is too old and doesn't provide the wall unit enough power. What about the 1-year warranty? Nope, it's because your garage opener is too old. OK..I don't even remember telling them what model my garage opener is.Luckily, I went through Amazon and even though the return window had expired, Amazon replaced the product at no charge and with 1-day shipping.Kudos to Amazon, but no thanks to Skylink support.
The product works unreliably through the garage door (plastic coated metal). It may be a battery issue, but I expect battery life to exceed 3 months. The handheld transmitter is marginally more effective than the keypad (previously purchased). Email support has been very good. Telephone support is mediocre.THIS PRODUCT IS NOT HOMELINK COMPATIBLE
I ORDERED THE OPENER TO REPLACE A DAMAGED SENDING UNIT ON MY OPENER. INSTEAD OF BEING SIMPLE (AS DESCRIBED) THE HOOK UP DOES NOT JUST HOOK UP TO BUTTON WIRES ON WALL. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SUGGESTED THAT MY OPENER NEEDED LASER LIGHTS FOR DOOR OPENING. WHICH THE PACKAGING NEVER MENTIONS NOR DOES THE ADVERTISEMENTS I HAVE SEEN FOR THIS PRODUCT.I WILL BE RETURNING THIS PRODUCT
Opener worked perfectly for a week. Receivers LED stopped lighting and working. Still works as a push button switch just doesn't receive signals. I ordered another receiver from a different seller and it doesn't work at all. I should have just bought a new opener and saved myself the hassle but I have used Skylink replacement transmitters at other places and they worked well for years.
Our marantec garage door opener was down to one remote so I bought a replacement remote through a local home improvement store. Imagine my surprise when I found it didn't work, and that no recent remote would work. Although the garage door opener was bought and installed in 2003, Marantec changed the frequencies and discontinued the type of remote that would work with its systems. The only option appeared to be either replace the whole opener or buy this conversion kit that would cost just as much as a new opener. Then I found this product.I was a little worried but at Amazon's super low price, I decided to give it a try.5 stars. Does exactly what it needed to do. Super simple to install and works like a charm. Now we once again have two remotes that will open our garage door. This product saved me a ton of money!
