Fein 9-20-24 HEPA Turbo I Vac 6-Gallon Wet or Dry Vacuum Reviews
I am using this to attach to various tools for lead paint scraping/sanding on my house. Powerful, quiet, and good features. What attracted me to the Fein(instead of the big yellow one) was the size, in that I was doing my house only and I did not want move a big 15 gallon thing around. Also the "inches of water lift" was actually way up there compared to similar models if you check it. The suction is adjustable, and it has a feature that allows your plugged in tool to control ON and OFF for the vacuum in sync with your tool. Very convenient. The vacuum actually runs 5 seconds longer after you shut off your tool to ensure any residual debris is out of the tool and hose. Like I said well designed. It replaced a Rigid Shop vac I bought a HEPA filter for and was trying to use as a HEPA. Nothing against shop vacs, but for whatever reason that setup did not work well. Maybe mine was too old for the job. Homeowner average joe's normally don't buy professional level stuff I don't think, but in this case I had to.I did not care for the price but my plan was to sell all my specialized HEPA tools once the job is done. But this vacuum I know will be hard to part with.
Add this vacuum to your list of acceptable RRP (Lead Renovation) vacs. Two developments make this possible.1. After a LOT of confusion and misinformation, the EPA's latest guidance regarding HEPA vacuums with respect to hazardous materials clarifies that it does NOT have an absolute standard for HEPA vacuum cleaners. Instead, it relies on a practical standard. This is it: If a vac comes STANDARD OEM with a bonafide HEPA filter, a filter certified to IEST RP-CC001.5, the EPA considers this to be acceptable for RRP. The old thinking was that the entire vac and filtration assembly had to be certified. Not so. Manufacturers like Dustless (for one) would like us to think otherwise, but the absence of an in-house certification (which is what Dustless has), violates no EPA regs or provisions. The EPA does not want contractors to go out and slap a HEPA filter on an old shop vac or Ridgid vac. But it has decided that if a manufacturer ships a vac with an actual HEPA filter attached, then issues of blow-by are likely to be minimal.2. The 9-20-24 HEPA comes with a HEPA filter certification that rates the filter to IEST RP-CC001.5. It also comes with specific language from Fein that rates/approves it for use (with the HEPA filter) for hazardous/carcinogenic material if used as directed. Thus, the 9-20-24 HEPA vac meets the EPA's practical standard for RRP work.note 1. I don't have a problem with the Dustless certification. If accurate it is likely a good measure of fitness for RRP work. But the EPA isn't going to fine you for not having a "certified" vacuum cleaner.note 2. As far as I know, it's not even possible to "throw a HEPA Filter" on an old shop-vac or Ridgid without using a Gore "Cleanstream" filter. Though retailed as "HEPA 5 Layer", these filters are clearly labeled as "not appropriate for RRP". On Gore's website they are also specifically counter-indicated for use with hazardous materials.BTW, this is my 2nd Fein vac. Yes I'm a big fan of Fein..
im a builder and i find any fein tools are phenomenal. my tools get used to the point of rediculous, so i can no longer use certain brands that i know break down easily or wear out and die alltogether. fein has never let me down. you get what you expect and more. the power from this little vac is amazing and its very quiet with adjustable speeds, nice. i can use this vac in my house while my newborn sleeps upstairs, without the worry of harmful dust getting blown around the house. on jobs customers love it and i can sleep at night- do yourself a favor, buy one-
