Wayne CDUCAP725 1/3 Horsepower Cast Iron and Steel Switch Genius Technology Sump Pump Reviews

    1. We used this Wayne CDUCAP850 sump pump for the overflow on our inground swimming pool. It worked for about a month and then would not shut off. We checked the manual and followed the trouble shooting with no luck. We called the company and they informed us of the product description in the manual, "The submersible pump is designed for indoor home sump pump applications". Now we are stuck with a nonfunctioning pump. Furthermore, even in indoor use this pump can not be used where there is discharge from a salt water softener or in a continuous use situation. Fresh water only, indoors and non-continuous use. My opinion is there are more reliable pumps on the market. I will never buy another Wayne brand pump.

    2. This pump has outlasted every pump I have ever had. I suspect it is because the thing I have the most trouble with is the switch. The float switches always stick, break, burn up the pump. This one never sticks and it is a powerhouse! I live where it is really wet and the pumps have to work hard to keep up. This is quieter than most, is very efficient and reliable. What more could you ask in a sump pump? I would buy another one as a back-up in a heart-beat!

    3. Just FYI, this pump cannot be used if your water softener brine drains into the sump pit. The salty brine water "fools" the "Switch Genius" and the pump runs constantly. I have confirmed this with Wayne Pumps. Other than that, the pump works great and is very quiet. I am going to have to buy another pump without the "Switch Genius" technolgy.

    4. I've had the Wayne pump running for about a month now and it's performance has been flawless. So far I would recommend this pump to others. It's now Sept 2011 and the pump is still working great. Just keep in mind that you have to clean the electronic switch periodically or the pump won't turn on and off properly.

    5. -----Update 7/22/10--------Well after a little more than a year the Switch Genius has failed. The pump no longer shuts off, it just keeps running with a short break after about 20 seconds then resumes.Obviously, I can't recommend a sump pump that fails so quickly. After digging out the instructions, they do state that you need to keep the surface of the Switch Genius water sensor clean and that a dirty sensor could cause what happened to mine. Mine is pretty scaled at this point and I can't clean it completely without damaging the surface. The instructions do not indicate how often it should be cleaned. So had I cleaned the sensor surface every couple months I suppose it may still work fine. But you shouldn't have to do that on a sump pump. And it has also gotten a lot louder over time, and I don't know why that would be unless something else is failing or worn. My old Zoeller which I kept as a backup is much quieter than the Wayne now.----original review-----It's hard to do a review on this because as we all know, one of the most important features of a sump pump is its reliability, and I simply haven't had it long enough to know that. So keep that in mind as you read this. This pump is very quiet and powerful. I can just barely hear it run when standing right over the sump pit. My old Zoeller pump could be heard throughout the house. The Switch Genius works fine, and hopefully will eliminate the problem I had with my old pump of the float getting stuck. The Switch Genius has its own power cord with a receptacle on the back of the plug, and the sump power then plugs into that. The switch receptacle is then what controls power to the sump. For continuous pumping, you simply plug the sump power directly into an outlet. Kind of an odd setup but it works. The cords were a bit short for my setup and I had to use an extension cord. I don't know how the Switch Genius works but I like the fact that there is nothing mechanical to fail. This doesn't seem to be built as solid as my old cast iron Zoeller pump, but it is much quieter. The Wayne is described as cast iron but the only cast iron appears to be the intake/outlet housing. The impeller and top are thermoplastic. Only time will tell if it is as reliable or not, but with a 5 year warranty I would expect it to be. My biggest concern is that if it does get stuck on I would never know it until it burns out because it is so quiet. But I do have a backup system in place.
