I purchased an Ariens A20BH42 lawn tractor recently and after the first time using it, I realized that a mulching blade was a must. The grass would shoot really far out of the mower and it was making a mess. I live in Florida and have thick St. Augustine grass. After reading some reviews, I figured that this blade was the best option. Installing the blades were a breeze after I was able to get the bolts off of the factory-installed blades. The bolts were very tight and wish I had an air tool to get them off at the time. I think the tractor directions gave the wrong direction for removing the bolts and it was a bit confusing, but it could have been me. I was able to set the deck on position 6 and I had just enough room to remove the original blades. My arms are not huge, so I was able to get in there, but it was pretty tight. If you have large arms, it might be very difficult and you may need to put the mower on a ramp or remove the deck. The plug was very easy to install and keeps the clippings from coming up at me. Some reviews said there were holes that shot grass into their face, but I do not have that problem. The directions tell you to keep the discharge chute on, which prevents the grass from coming up at you. If you decide to take it off, then I can see where the grass could come out. This was worth every penny and if you have any doubts, GET IT!
Had high hopes that this would fit and work properly. I have a Ariens rider. The mulch blades fit and seem to work fine...it's the discharge cover that I have a problem with. It's obviously a universal fit piece, because it doesn't fit the discharge hole on my deck well at all. Matter of fact, after I installed this PIECE (oh and it's made to fasten to the deck with pre-installed bungee cords ...yes bungee cords), I had to add a few strips of duct tape around the gaps because grass and debris were shooting up right at me. Not sure if there is an alternate product available, but if there is, by all means try something else besides this. I 100% do NOT recommend this item.
It had a little hole for a tab, but my mower didn't have a tab. I fixed the huge problem by using a piece of gorilla glue brand black tape. It went on super easy and works great. Blades were on the cheap side, but really just wanted the plastic piece anyway. No complaints for the price.
I was a little concerned about being able to reach under the mower deck to access the bolts that hold the blades. No problem, with the deck in the highest position , there is room for a socket set. If you are 76, like me, you might want to wear knee pads. Got it together and it it really does mulch the grass, even at higher speed than recommended. Can't ask for more.
IT WORKS GREAT,IT CAME WITH BLADES AND ADAPTER,BUT WHEN I CHECK MY BLADES ON IT,IT HAD THE EXACT SAME BLADES AS KIT,SO I HAVE A SPARE SET OF BLADES NOW.WILL MAKE CHANGE OUT OF BLADES QUICK,PUT NEW ONES ON,RESHARPEN AND HANGUP OLD BLADES FOR NEXT CHANGE OUT.GREAT PRICE AND VALVE,EASY TO USE.
Bought for my 42' Ariens Riding Tractor. It fits perfectly well and does an excellent job. Can't ask for more. Very happy with this buy.
